New York City

I’m back! Ventured back home late last night from a wonderful, exhilarating vacation. Chaz and I filled my car with suitcases, camping supplies, food, and bicycles and hit the road over a week ago. First stop, New York City.

Storm over Delaware

We hit some terrible weather headed up north. Seems as though everyone on the coast experienced really bad storms over the past week. My heart goes out to those who are still without power (& air conditioning) on these sweltering summer days. Slowly, but surely, we reached our destination: a beautiful, brownstone, apartment in Harlem, NYC occupied by a cat named Boots. I snagged the apartment on Airbnb – I’m obsessed with this rent-a-house site.

Our 3-day weekend was filled with phenomenal live music. Together, with our friend Bill, we attended the Governor’s Ball Music Festival on Randall’s Island in the heart of New York City. Some of my favorite performers: Fiona Apple, Santigold, Freelance Whales, Modest Mouse, and Beck. Unfortunately, cameras weren’t permitted without a press pass and I wasn’t granted permission for a pass. Oh well. Fun fan photos can be seen here.

Our bikes were very handy. We cruised the city, peddled through Central Park, rode along the Hudson, and explored. I highly recommend bikes in the city – unless you get frazzled by traffic, lots of pedestrians, and taxis – all of which really kind of freaked me out. Either way, bicycles saved us some time and some moolah.
